Driving Up Standards

Former Stagecoach supervisor and Stroud RE Group member Alan Davies has written to the News & Journal defending bus drivers against accusations made in an earlier letter (by a Ms Godber) of hogging the road. Ms Godber complained of narrow roads being irresponsibly blocked by ignorant bus drivers causing inconvenience to car drivers. Davies points to cars travelling at inappropriate speeds and unable to see oncoming traffic. In short, cavalier attitudes.

The roads around and between Stroud’s villages aren’t particularly suited to any large vehicles but there are still some people—surprising but true—who need a bus. It’s the bus driver who’s trained and tested to the highest standard to ensure his passengers remain safe. That’s in spite of the narrow-minded and often ignorant tone of drivers who can’t or won’t reverse a few feet to let a bus through.
